Rehydration | Preparation | Dehydrated Food
~ Each meal at Pilgrim Foods requires a certain amount of time for rehydration, a soak time frame will be suggested on the packaging and is dependant on the ingredients ~
Preparation
We suggest emptying the desired amount of food into your chosen vessel, covering with water and then adding a little more, this allows for expansion while it rehydrates. Give it a stir and let it sit whilst you set up camp | pack down | or simply enjoy the surrounds.
After 20 minutes, stir and check the rehydration, if the ingredients are ready, turn on the stove and heat until hot. If you have an insulation bag then you can reverse the steps by heating first and letting sit for 15 - 20 minutes. The longer the meal soaks the better the rehydration and the more enjoyable the food is.
Or pop it in a cold soak container and hike along with it for your last hour before camp, then it will be perfectly rehydrated and ready to heat without the additional wait.
Timing Your Meals
Allowing time for your food to soak is crucial for its texture and your experience with it. The longer the meals soak the better the rehydration is, making for a more enjoyable meal. At Pilgrim Foods we want you to enjoy your meal, so please allow time and account for this when you decide to eat.
Home Compostable Packaging
Our packaging is 100% Home Compostable, which is awesome and regenerative but unfortunately they cannot be cooked in ~ please do not add hot water to the pouches. These meals can be prepared in your pot | pan | or a reusable heat safe bag.
